Iñigo Arguibide has secured his future at Club Atlético Osasuna by signing a contract extension until June 30, 2030. The right-back, a product of the club's youth academy, sees his release clause raised to €15 million in a deal that represents a clear commitment to his development.
The Navarrese defender, born in Huarte in 2005, seized the opportunity created by Valentin Rosier's pre-season injury to establish himself in the starting lineup. "He has taken advantage of Rosier's injury to settle in at right-back," the player acknowledged. Head coach Luis Miguel Ramis has selected him for all seven opening LaLiga EA Sports matches this season, where he is the squad's most-used player, accumulating over 500 minutes. His performances have been key to the team's total of eight points in the standings, from two wins and two draws and the current standings.
The path from Tajonar
Arguibide began his career at CD Huarte and Gazte Berriak before joining the Tajonar academy. There he completed a transition from forward to winger, then wing-back, and finally to right-back, a process that culminated in his top-flight debut on February 25, 2024 against Las Palmas. After splitting time with the reserve team last campaign, his consolidation this term has been complete.
The renewal, which will be formalised at an event next week, adds three seasons to his original deal. The club held a unilateral option to extend until 2029, but both parties agreed to go one year further, until 2030. Sporting director José Antonio Prieto 'Cata' will accompany the player at the ceremony. "He will accompany the player at the renewal event that will take place next week," Prieto confirmed. This operation is the first the new sporting director has conducted involving a first-team player.
The agreement comes as Osasuna sit 13th in LaLiga, with eight points from two wins, two draws and three defeats. Their next fixture is a tough away trip to third-placed Real Betis on October 11. Rosier's return from injury will present Ramis with a tactical dilemma at right-back, but Arguibide's renewal ensures the club has two quality long-term options for the position. The player, who has already logged over 500 minutes this season, will continue his development in Pamplona.
